Am I...reading too much into this...?
From Action Comics Annual #12.

After the events of Last Son, Chris makes do in the Phantom Zone for while (aided by Non, of all people), until getting caught by his blood parents again.

Did this just imply what I think it just implied? Probably not, but still...keeping in mind that the rest of this issue is as equally brutal and bleak. Masterfully-written, as to be expected from Rucka, but...brutal and bleak.

If you were thinking what I am thinking then that would be the first thing that came to mind

My brain went there when I read it, then it ran back and hid under my bed.

"Did this just imply what I think it just implied?" I don't know (I certainly hope not), but after reading that and re-reading the panel, I think my mind just went the same place yours did. T_T *twitches uncontrollably*

I think I went to an even worse place. I saw the word "relieved" and for some reason imagined them peeing on him for kicks! I like your version better. Ugh.

I think it's supposed to be one concept - the act of torturing him has relieved the inmates of years of boredom.

Rape is a fairly common tool of torture, though. So it's not really a stretch.

It's hard to believe that bored psychopathic inmates wouldn't think of it, yeah. It's not like they don't in real world prisons.

Poor Chris.

Chris hasn't really been acting like the victim of repeated mass rape OR torture, though . . .

I think -- assuming that he was actually raped -- that would be due to Thara's influence on him, and vice versa his influence on her in regards to the trauma she's gone through. It's shown in this issue that the two of them are genuine incarnations of Nightwing and Flamebird, some sort of Destined Lover Soulmates Thingy who complete each other lifetime after lifetime. It's all very Thanagarian ;), right down to the awkward Furry subtexts...don't ask.

And on that wacky sidebar, it bears noting that, at this point, Chris and Thara's relationship has been transformed by Rucka into something completely unlike the slightly condescending partnership that Geoff Johns first depicted.

Why is DC insisting on taking a character I liked and giving him as many problems as possible?
