Lyra's Squicky Mission

See what she's been sent to our time to accomplish in these four scans from All-New Savage She-Hulk #3.

Last issue ended with Sentry throwing She-Hulk away, and the Dark Avengers appearing to confront Lyra.  Osborn tells Marvel Boy to take her, since "you haven't been impressing me lately"; MB transports her inside his Pocket Battlefield, and, after an extended fight, defeats her.  They take her back to HQ.

In the "future" segment, meanwhile, we learn that the Gynosure ordered Lyra killed after completing her mission; the assassin failed, but the cradle tech they had been sent to retrieve was also destroyed.  Now femme-city is totally screwed, it seems, since everybody born from the cradles is naturally sterile.  Gynosure begs Lyra to undertake one final mission back to the past.

Back in the present...

Is she more angry about the toss or that she ended up in New Jersey?

I love that she took a cab back.

Didn't see that coming, though given all the references to how the future believes Osborn was this era's "greatest hero", that makes sense.

A whole future populated with Osborns; that's probably Norman's greatest fantasy.

Their sensors are so good they can tell when a completely unknown alien being is OVULATING?

Jinkies!

She's the child of Hulk and Thundra. If their sensors would would work on them, wouldn't they be able to work on Lyra?

She's the daughter of the Hulk, a gamma-irradiated man, and Thundra, a woman from the future. They're still both humans.

I'd say that the Hulk is about as far from being a human man as it's possible to get and not actually be alien. His physiology operates in a different way, rendering him naturally immune to all diseases, including HIV.

That's because he essentially has a really advanced healing factor (as was established in that MacFarlane/PAD issue where he fought Wolverine).

She's the child of (meta-)humans and the body temperatures of human females raise slightly when they're ovulating.

S.H.I.E.L.D., then S.W.O.R.D., then H.A.M.M.E.R., now A.R.M.O.R.?

Is A.R.M.O.R. new?

Nope. They've been part of Marvel Zombies stories, as of #3 series, and have been mentioned someplace before that (although I can't remember where)

Altered-Reality Monitoring and Operational Response. They're a creation of Fred Van Lente's that first appeared in Marvel Zombies 3.

ARMOR predates HAMMER, actually, though not by much. When it was created (in Marvel Zombies 3 #1, as noted below), SHIELD still existed.

I got to hand it to She Hulk; she actually had the nerve to walk up to Marvel's neurotic superman and lay him out. Girls got kahones.

And why is Osborne such a lucky sumbitch? The only possible way he could get any luckier is if they discovered his crap contained priceless sapphires that could cure cancer.

I can't say that this series interested me much (despite liking Fred Van Lante and usually trying to give series with female leads at least a shot in the hopes of encouraging more), but that last page? Completely kills *any* chance of me picking it up.

loved

You know I think it's the kissing that's bothering me. If she'd just torn his shirt off all primal-like with a predatory come-and-get-it expression, that'd be one thing. Sex is sex and has all kinds of connotations. The primary connotation of kissing, though, is affection and intimacy. Random hulk-from-the-future having sex with a guy who she doesn't know from Adam for the sake of her species I can handle. Random hulk-from-the-future showing affection and genuine interest in a guy she doesn't know from Adam would creep me out even if it wasn't Norman "Exponentially More Creepy-Making" Osborn.

iirc Thundra kissed Hulk in order to get the DNA sample to make Lyra. Maybe it's meant to mirror that scene?

And come on, Norman Osborn in full swoon? ;) But yes, I fully take your point about the creep factor.
