At first I thought there was something seriously wrong with Robin(?)'s chest but then I realized it was his shoulder.

OH! That's his shoulder? I was having flashbacks to that Liefeld Cap.

Ditto. Are we certain it's his shoulder? The angle looks off.

His shirt is red with green sleeves. The part we see in the second panel is green, therefore it's his shoulder.

Saved by the colorist.

You're right, the green means it must be a sleeve and therefore his shoulder. Thank heavens.

I totally did not realize until you said it. Thanks!

Not really a fan of the art, Superman's small head, Batman's funny looking hips and Kon's hair do. ergh.

Pat Lee is a superstar artist, what are you talking about?

A Robin cape that's much too light.

In my experience, "superstar" means they were big names in the nineties and shouldn't be anymore.

It's worse. He wasn't a big name until the 00s. And even then, not that big. But he's a 90s reject. And he doesn't pay his staff unless they're related to him.

Tell me this is one of those "oh it's a Wiki everyone lies!" situations, please.

Check the sources, it's all true. In fact, fun fact, the page scanned may not actually have been drawn by Pat Lee!

Robin looks a little off in the second panel (that is his shoulder, right?). And I thought he was shorter than Kon. Meh. Either way, the dialogue is made of so much win. "They act like we're going to blow up half of downtown Tokyo." "Who says we aren't?" *giggle*

Batman: "I don't trust ANYONE."

Jeyl: Douche-bag
Crow: Dickweed
Tom: Jagoff.

Ah Batman in pillock-mode, how I don't miss him.

So Batman doesn't trust anyone? Dick, Tim, Cass, Babs and Alfred might be rather offended by that for starters.

He relies on them, doesn't he?

So what harm is there in actually acknowledging them as people he trusts then? It's just being a pillock for the sake of being a pillock.

Makes it seem like he's trying way to hard to be a badass. And Batman should never look like he's trying to hard to seem like a badass.

It's emphasizing that it's a stupid question to begin with. It makes Superman looks much worse than Batman, imo.

...does Batman trust himself? Because if he doesn't trust himself, he can't trust his perceptions of anyone else to be accurate, therefore he can't trust anyone.

It always comes around to Batman being kind of a psycho, doesn't it?

It all breaks down to definitions of trust. Bruce probably doesn't trust himself any more than anyone else to never break ever - he'd be made to, with all the times he's come this close to killing someone - but he's aware of it. Similarly, he must also be aware of his allies' limits. That's what I understand when I read his "I don't trust anyone"; there's no one he trusts absolutely, because humans have limits.

Then there's the issue of Bruce's perceptions getting fucked over by the the mind fuckery that was the retcon of Zatanna and the League mindraping him.

And there's another kind of trust, which is the one Batman and Robin are more interested in here; if you rely on someone, if you choose to work with someone, that means you trust them.

Zatanna and the League mindraping him

He didn't get mindraped, his had five minutes of memory removed. Mindrape would be drastically altering his personality, such as what happened to Dr. Light.

If you like. My point is that it was a stupid, stupid, stupid retcon that played right into Batman's issues with the League and made it impossible to discuss Batman's trust issues without admitting that it's not like he hasn't been justified in them.

(Though I'd like to understand more about the definition of mindrape. Date rape is still rape; wouldn't it make sense that forcibly removing things from someone's mind is mindrape as well? I'm not expressing myself very clealy, I'm sorry.)
