I never bought any BB comics, because experience has taught me that no matter how awesome a character is, unless said character is Batman/Superman/Wolverine/[Extremely Popular And At Least 40-Years-Old Character X], then DC and Marvels are eventually going to screw him/her up. With a rusty spiked hook.
Much like Whedon shows, you just know that it's eventually going to end in tears. It may take a long time (it took 15 years for Anima to meet her gruesome end in Faces of Evil: Prometheus), but it will happen. So, I just find it pointless or even downright hurtful to get emotionally invested in them in the first place.
When I want to read about new and original characters, I read manga. With comics, I've learned the hard way to only read "safe" characters.
