WEEK OF DOOM: Tears of a God
I present to you a story from Thor Annual 1999 (ok really THE story since it was the only one). Doom taking on the thunder god, Thor. This story also explains what happened with Thor between Heroes Return and his reappearance during the start of Busiek/Perez's Avengers run. All of this is written and drawn by Dan Jurgens.

DOOM!!

Given that this is an annual I have a little more extra scans to share than the usual seven. If there's too many scans for that. I will remove some.

Our story starts off with the God of Thunder paying a visit to the Fantastic Four. They and Franklin Richards want to thank him for saving the later from Dr. Doom (see Heroes Return again). The wee one gives him a little present with Fantastic Four decorations around it (oh so cute). They then ask him what happened between the time he saved Frankie to when he reappeared. Thor doesn't recall.

It is then the memories of his time fighting Dr. Doom for all eternity flood back. In-between the dimension of the two worlds as the two combat each other relentlessly, both are then suddenly yanked out and end up in a a barren world.

Thor encounters the beautitful hermit, Ceranda. Doom on the other hand:

As Thor and Ceranda grow closer and the two fall in love. Doom is doing what Doom does best, conquer:

Of course Doom then sends the brunt of this world's military might against Thor. As an added trump card, Doom has rigged some tanks with poisonous gas that will be unleashed on the innocent populace if Thor doesn't yield. Thor of course says, "NAY!" defeats Doom and the remaining forces that where left standing. Then he destroys the machine and stops the gas from spreading. Thor wins right?

Well returning to the battlefield, Thor happens upon Doom's form. Even he realizes this tad too easy against a person like Dr. Doom. So he unmasks Doom to find a normal looking dude behind the mask. Realizing he's been duped Thor goes to the one other place Doom could have gone:

You want to read more and what Franklin gives Thor? Or Thor's reaction to now knowing all of this? Get the Annual. :)

How could Doom gain her power if he's not wearing her skin?

You want to read more

I'd be content to read what's here, if people would stop thinking that 450 pixels wide for a full page is remotely readable. 700 or higher, pretty please?

Which isn't much alas since I scanned then cropped them to 800 which means I cropped them less when I cut out the pages and white parts of my scanner. Sorry. :(

I know the green font is annoying.

It's alright. I actually don't mean to pick on this post specifically (though I do enjoy a good Doom post), I just would like the community in general to remember the posting guidelines (which actually recommend 800-900 pixels wide). For me, I generally need at least 700 pixels wide for a full page to read it comfortably. 600 or 650 I can read, but not always comfortably depending on fonts and such. 500 or 550 I may or may not even be able to read, depending again on fonts and such. Once it gets below 500, I pretty much resign myself to being unable to read most if not all of the dialogue and just look at the art.

Of course, that's me. Others' mileage varies, I'm sure. Just something to bear in mind.

(note: I define reading comfortably as being able to read at a normal pace, sitting as I normally sit, without any sort of zoom function. I define able to read but not comfortably as being able to make out every word through any combination of zoom features, leaning forward, and/or having to stop and study particular words.)
