Actually, I didn't buy Final Crisis, but was interested in this team, so don't go insinuating everyone's thinking the same way as you.
The talent attached to this book speaks for itself, frankly, and I think it's likely to be one of the strongest books DC puts out at the moment (I enjoyed it particularly more than Action Comics, BFTC and Power Girl in recent weeks, the former and latter of which I loved). The idea of superheroes as a marketing ploy is nothing new, especially for someone like Joe Casey, but it's got me hooked for all six issues.
