Okay, this is exactly where I'd like you to be careful.
As I mentioned and as you know, I'm a white guy. And white guys of even moderate intelligence avoid discussions of race like the plague. Because we know people who look like us did some shitty shit, and we know when people are talking about racists they usually mean us. Especially if you're from the south.
The reason we avoid such discussions is because we are so easily confused with the problem.
I mention this because I am not the person under discussion here. I do not need any tips to improve my racial awareness. I am not to be confused with Jeff Parker, and I'll admit to being sensitive about it.
"examining your own white privilege" is not what I want to hear, because it sounds like you're talking about me. And I do not want to be called a racist.
This is my opinion and my observation of the preponderance of the white guys I know. I'm mentioning it because if I mentioned your white privilege to you I think you would be a little confused and upset. Perhaps because you're not "white," IIRC. and also perhaps because our society has agreed that "white privilege" is not a good thing, is in fact dreadful and to be avoided.
As it happens, I did read racefail. My reactions to it were not as strong as yours, but I did read quite a bit of it.
One thing that I'm trying to say to you in this post is that being called a racist seriously hurts, and it's not something to call people lightly. It's a big deal.
