Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future
The incomparably awesome [info]grey_bard gave me a compilation of the 1950's adventure comic Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future: Prisoners of Space. It's mostly a cheerfully wholesome space adventure, so I feel dirty-minded by sharing these two panels with you. Just try to imagine what it was like to live in an age this innocent:

The author was British.
fag -noun
9.Chiefly British. drudgery; toil.
10.British Informal. a younger pupil in a British public school required to perform certain menial tasks for, and submit to the hazing of, an older pupil.
11.a drudge.

This picture from the end is large, so it's under a cut:

So, I cross-posted all my posts to the old s_d to my personal LJ. Mostly, some of you will recall, it was Golden Age Wonder Woman. If people are interested, I'll repost them here. Let me know!

Flamer WAS a trifle unfortunately named, poor lad. But Dan Dare is unutterably awesome, Frank Hampson's work was glorious.

I really love Dan Dare - it's the science fiction version of the books of my youth (Swallows and Amazons, Kipling, Just William and the rest) with added lasers and spaceships.

Dan Dare was my childhood, alongside dad's old Eagle annuals :D Digby was always my favourite. Although I always got him confused with Lemmy from the Journey into Space radio productions. >.>

"Journey Into Space"! Just heard it this year on the Botar's Old Time Radio podcast. Lemmy was definitely the most memorable character.

I used to listen it before I went to bed, and then wonder why I was too scared to sleep XD Alongside Earthsearch, which is highly recommended if you haven't heard it :)

Uh, er, um, well. Hm.

Interesting heads. I have to say, this is my first exposure to non-Rian Hughes Dan Dare. It's--hm.
