You keep bringing up Panthro. Why the hell is he at all relevant to this conversation? Because he's black (well, blue)? You may as well be saying "model him on Morpheus, from the Matrix!" The characters have basically nothing in common except race.
Black Panther is a King. This is fundamental to the character. He watched his father (the previous King) die when he was young, and he suddenly had the weight of an entire country on his shoulders. He's spent his whole life training to lead his country, all while saying "I'll never be as great a ruler as him." Everything revolves around his responsibilities as monarch. You can have a story where it doesn't come up, but writing Black Panther with that background completely ignored is like writing a Batman whose parents are just fine, thankyou, and who had a normal childhood in suburbia. You're dismissing the core of the character as unimportant.
The Marvel Universe needs to be set in New York? I'm glad you have no input on Nova, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor, or Captain Britain and the MI-13.
You keep saying you don't want his race shoved in your face, but looking at how dismissive you are of every other aspect of the existing character, it seems like it's the only thing about him that you think matters.
