"How the fuck can we AVOID reading the creators' negativity, when they fucking INVADE our spaces with it like that?"
I think the question is whether they're really OUR spaces or not. I'm actually a great believer in Scans_daily being a place where creators and fans should be able to rub shoulders and, as we know, Gail and Warren did that for a long time without issue. On the other hand we then had Dan Slott and He Who Shall Not Be Named looking in with the very attitude of wanting to defend their works, but rather than doing so effectively, doing the standard internet practice of attacking the person, rather than the views. (Although, of course, it worked the other way round too of course.)
At the end of the day, creators and fans should be judged by the same standards. But a creator has every bit as much right to long in here and state their view as anyone else does. They don't have the right to troll about it. But I guess it's a mixed blessing that not many creators have actively got involved in Scans_Daily. I think it's sad we don't have more people like Gail or Warren around, but on the other hand it's a blessing that I can read a book and take it at face value without the creator logging in to lecture me on it, like you say. Contact with certain writers has tainted the experience of reading their books to me.
As much as I hate to sound like a kneejerk reactionist, for example, I won't pick up another PAD book, but I'd pretty much already made that decision BEFORE the scans_daily mess because of what happened with the X-factor baby.
