A lot of folks writing for film and television over the last several years have been comic book fanboys. I'd guess these guys likely are, as well. Writing for another medium can certainly bring a fresh perspective from outside the usual comics bubble. Paul Dini, for example, could be argued to have a better sense of comic book storytelling than most of the folks in the industry today who've had comics as their main career.
