What's all this Bojeffries business, then?

Here's a few pages from WARRIOR# 12, August 1983, part of the ongoing Bojeffries Saga by Alan Moore and Steve Parkhouse. (I see the collected stories are available on eBay and not a bad way to use some expendable income.) These remind me of Henry Kuttner's classic Hogben series, which ran in 1940s pulps. Those involved a hillbilly family whose members had a mind-blowing array of unusual traits and powers; because of the print medium, much was left suggested to let the readers' imaginations supply some details. I don't know if Alan Moore ever read the Kuttner stories, and the resemblance is not overwhelming but it would be nice to know if he ever mentioned the influence in any interviews.

The rent collector is curious why the Bojeffries haven't paid a penny in nearly a century. The explanation he gets is "Sorry. We moved out a long time ago. There's different people living here now." Can Ginda really perform all the unlikely deeds she claims? (she can also "create a uni-cellular life-form using only the ingredients found in malt vinegar"?)

The night before, we saw a large shaggy wolf with a rather unsettling smirk enter the residence. Oddly, it was wearing a scarf rather like the one Raoul has on now.

Telling Festus to go outside if he wants to shout would endear him to the neighbors. Is he really a Wegeterian, he doesn't seem like the type. Why can Raoul understand whatever language it is that he's yelling in? The baby they mention is kept in the cellar, by the way, and is remarkably large. (Kuttner's stories also had this detail, which is what made me wonder about the influence).

I LOVED the Bojeffries Saga back when I was reading it. They were like a more dysfunctional Addams Family!

Woo! Never seen this before always cool to see classic Alan Moore.

Any chance you could post smaller scans in future though? I really enjoy your Golden Age and Underground comic posts, but they are always rather huge in resolution and I have to wait for them to download and then zoom them out to half the size if I want to read them.

Cheers ears!

Sorry, I'll look into it. I see the posts as a thumbnail that clicks up to a larger size and then to a huge size that more than fills the screen; the last size is good for spotting cameos and examining details of pen work. I don't know how these posts look on different computers.

With me, it's a thumbnail that clicks up to a size el grande grande that can take up to half an hour to load completely. I'm glad Anonymous spoke up about it, because I've been meaning to say something about it for a while now - it's somewhat inconvenient for dial-up people like myself.

I'm seeing an intermediate size that fits entirely on the screen. I'm sure there's a way to post the final size smaller, let me fiddle with it (of course, with my luck the scans will come out a manageable size but upsisde down).

Well, I'll be sure to tell you if THAT happens.

I freakin' LOVE the Bojeffries Saga still. The Tundra edition is still a treasured possession that no amount of money will make me part with.

The very best stories, of course, are "Sex, With Ginda Bojeffries"(Brr. "I don't care about the size of a man's orgasm, but I do insist on multiple penises. I guess I'm that Cosmo girl.") and the one about the vampire uncle when he accidentally oversleeps.

You forgot to mention that Grandad is an Elder God.

You scanned the originals! These look so much better than the reprinted, recolored, and reduced versions the ran as back up featured in Flesh & Bones (US). I know that an out-of-print collection exists; if it's on Ebay, it's well worth looking into. Thanks for the heads up.

All I know in regards to what Moore thinks of this strip is that it's "very much British".

I have a nearly complete set of WARRIOR that I snatched up at a yard sale ages ago. I'll look for some good LASER ERASER AND PRESSBUTTON episodes, especially ones featuring Zirk (that little cad).
