Chase and Lasers: A Love Story
The "I LOVE" meme reminded me that we have a severe lack of classic Runaways in our new archive. So let's go back to a simpler time, when BKV and Adrian Alphona were still in charge, the runaways were just settling in their new hostel, and Victor Mancha would possibly grow up to destroy all they love. But in the midst of all that angst, love blooms.

The runaways face off against Excelsior for the first time. THEN SUDDENLY--

Nico and Victor's exchange is a bit funnier given later events.

Later, the runners are thrashed by a Doombot.

ah yes, the scene that very possibly propelled Chase from my least favorite to my most favorite Runaway

This is the scene that made me start shipping Chase and Victor. Gert watches.

I loved this bit, why haven't Excelsior showed up in Runaways since then? I thought you know, that they were gonna be like Team Rocket.

Yeah, all that set-up for Excelsior to be major supporting characters in the book and they never fought the runaways again. It was disappointing. I do think the book misses something when the runaways don't have someone to clearly run away from.

That's what the Runaways are founded on. When they aren't running from an external threat then they'll turn on each other and self-destruct. That's one thing Moore got kinda right, if only he didn't blame it on some stupid spell.

They're Runaways. Why aren't they running?

The annoying thing is that ever since the Initiative, the Runners ought to have plenty to run from; isn't California's premiere super team smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles? But for some bizarre reason, it just never comes up.

Something that Kathryn Immonen has said she's going to address in her run - making the Runaways live up to their name again.

It really bugs me because Excelsior would've been great foils to the Runaways. Young adults to their teenagers, trying to turn away from heroism to their trying not to become villains, both teams trying to "grow up" as they see fit... it would have been amazing.

Besides, I'm really bitter that Loners gave Phil Urich such a stupid subplot. Becoming the one of the founders and "mission control" for Excelsior was such a cool, logical development for him.
