Oy, once again with the prostitute (and what exactly is an "uncommon" prostitute, a debutante who marries the richest man she can find?).
It's been said over and over but Selina's origin as a prostitute is an easy out. Instead of being a complex character whose motivations for stealing (and in turn, helping people) are as complicated as a tabby cat's fur, it's basically the writers going "look! she is a fallen woman! no wonder she dresses up in skintight leather, steals stuff and flirts with our Hero whose parents are DEAD (but were once virtuous upstanding citizens)!"
/rant. However, when the writers DO remember the awesomely complex character that I love and ship so hard it is truly a thing to behold.
