I've heard that a lot, and to a degree I share it. Robin was the kid who was always going to be stronger, faster, smarter, plus he wore a silly outfit and STILL got to hang out with the coolest guy on Earth, well, TWO coolest guys on Earth if you count Alfred... Three if you count Superman in World's Finest.
So seeing him get taken down a peg or two was always fun (Probably an element as to why I also enjoyed the Hardy Boys being tied up and gagged)
However, I wonder how much of that is subtle adult modification of ones own childhood memories. After all, when playing as a kid, there could only be one Batman, and once that role was taken (usually by one of the kids who WAS stronger, faster and smarter, or at least stronger and not akin to expressing said strenght), Robin was the next best thing.
