While I don't have much of a problem with this on a basic level - Spidey trying to make peace with Jonah, who rants on oblivious, is basically what's been happening, on and off, for the past forty-odd years - I will say that this is not a good depiction of JJJ. Jameson may be a blustering blowhard who wants to see Spider-Man thrown in jail, but he's not a MURDERER. I can see him issuing orders for an anti-Spider squad, sure, but not one set on permanent 'shoot to kill' mode. Jonah should be an antagonist, but not a villain. My theory is this - OMD is supposed to be a sort of 'reset mode' for the Spidey series, right? By making that deal with Mephisto, he effectively undid (temporarily, we hope) a good chunk of the progress made in the last couple decades. So presumably, this version of Jonah is Lee's original Jonah taken to the illogical extreme - Mephisto has created a JJJ bereft of the calming influence of recent years, where he's been portrayed more as a grumbler than a ranter. This is Jonah-as-fanatic, not as crotchety-but-honorable-newspaperman. It makes sense, in a way - Mephisto is, remember, basically the Devil, so it's not surprising that he'd see only the worst in a character like Jonah. When this is eventually undone, we'll get the old Jameson back. (Incidentally, does anyone else see it as weird that JONAH, of all people, is affected by the Marvel anti-smoking crusade? I mean, I can grudgingly understand Quesada's policy of not having the heroes smoke, because that could influence the kiddies, but JONAH? He's not someone you're SUPPOSED to identify with; even at his best, he's SUPPOSED to be grating and obnoxious to those around him! Wouldn't a cigar only help that portrayal of him in a largely non-smoking world? It makes no sense.)
