That was something that really bothered me in the first story to talk about Spider-Man's parents. (They're not as important to his mythos so they don't come up as much as Batman's, but...)
He discovers that they were spies, but they had been traitors. So he goes on a mission to find out the truth. At the end, he finds out they weren't traitors, and is overjoyed to finally clear his father's name. His mother was exactly as much in it as his dad, and he didn't know either of them so he wasn't closer to his dad or anything. But he only really talked about his father.
That didn't really happen in later stories, but I think it said a lot about the times.
