I agree that there are far too many of these 'tragic life of Timmy' moments, but this, at least, is a pretty well-done one. Bruce is clearly feeling a fair amount of mental pain, here - he wants so badly to be a comfort to his friend and sidekick, but he knows full well that his alter ego has removed most of the potential for those capacities. For someone who knows him as Batman, his personal darkness will fall like a shroud over every encounter. He cannot stop it from doing so, either - it's an integral part of who he is. It must be horrible to know that, and this is communicated very well here. Also, that panel where he's hugging Tim and the Bat-shadows start to creep across his features? Very nicely done.
