Easter is the old holiday of Eos, goddess of the dawn (and baby animals).
It could be rendered as 'Eos-ster'. Or say, 'Dawn-ster'. 'Dawn-STAR', get it?
Who else has that name? Why, it's Lucifer, the lightbringer and star of the morning!
Lucifer is known for being an angel. Who else has fluffy wings? Why, Eos, who is noted for being one of the few Greek gods who does!
What else do they have in common? The Easter animals are sacred to Eos. The rabbit is an animal trickster hero, just as Lucifer is a trickster in his devil persona!
Interesting thing my husband told me about the Iraqi tribe he's around..an ancient ritual they had once involved sacrificing an infant over a hole that would drain onto and "bless" baskets of eggs that would be stained and colored as they dried. Now, the Eastern Orthodox christians have a fair amount of symbolism explaining why Jesus is symbolized by a red-colored egg (the Russian branch does insanely beautiful designs on theirs, but the plain red is sacred), but I don't think these guys had Bunny Jesus in mind.
