Superman: World of New Krypton #2
Hmm...I wasn;t planning on reading this series originally but it caught my eye in my LCS and decided I'd give it a shot. The first issue was a bit blah since it was set up but this issue with Super- err I mean Commander El on his first day working as part of New Krypton's... Military guild i think it was? Caught my eye while skimming and I picked it up. Especially since we get a nice look into the mind of some of the New Kryptonians.

Two pages from the issue to show some fun.

Basically Kal and company are sent out to stop a Thought-Beast stampede, they can attack you psychically and show you your worst fears or dissapointments from what I can tell. Most of the group just want to kill them but Kal being our farmboy proposes just tricking them into a new spot (a pitfall the group makes). Yep he teaches them to cattle drive.

I love how HUMAN their fears and dissapointments are. Don't miss the top part with Kal being forced to see his dad die again as well as Non remebering when he and his daughter were still together ( I think she was killed at some previous point). It's also a nice thing to see that while they're all Kryptonian only he's Superman the onee taking charge.

And they use their heat visions to scare the Alpha male of the group and thus the rest to follow into their new area.

Twas a fun issue. Lots of fun stuff in it to my surprise. Definitely worth picking up.

Two issues in, and this rocks so hard.

Definitely worth picking up.

I still don't like the premise, but I can't deny the work that's sprung from it has been appealing as all getout.

Precedent says all Kryptonian life should be, under a yellow sun, but... who knows, these days?

Hey, there were all sorts of Superpets back in the day. There was Krypto the Superdog, and Cosmo, the Supercat, I believe. I think there was also a Supermonkey, but I could be completely wrong.

And, of course, there was Supergirl's Superhorse, but I doubt he counts as an animal.

Cosmo, the Supercat

Streaky. He was a normal Earth cat till exposed to "X-Kryptonite". You're probably thinking of Comet, who was a centaur turned horse and given superpowers by Circe. He turned into a human when a comet passeed by and fell into love with Supergirl when in human form.

Really.

Only two of the Superpets - Krypto, and Beppo the Supermonkey (used for the proof-of-concept rocket before the one that sent Kal-El to Earth) - were Kryptonian. The others were Streaky, an Earth cat given powers by accident, Comet a centaur-turned-horse-sometimes-turned-human who had a thing for Supergirl, and Proty II, a Protean (basically a sentient, shapechanging blob).

Interestingly, the Proteans were later given rights as a sentient race, making Proty's original status as a pet...problematic.

... kryptonian insects.

my god, it's like one of the Justice League's fears re: Amazo: " ... if he ever used Clark's strength and Ray's size control and Wally's speed and went straight for our heads... "

they can attack you psychically and show you your worst fears or dissapointments

So basically the thought beasts attack you using the same approach as my mother can manage with a single phone call... neat!
