Continuing Clois Week
Oh I love what I've sparked :D

"Superman: Up Up and Away!" is one of my absolute favorite stories. It's one I take out when I'm feeling out of sorts. It takes place immediately following the One Year Later jump, and deals with Superman's loss of powers and how he slowly gets them back. Perhaps what I like about it the most is that it's not a Superman story so much as a Clark Kent story. Yes, Superman appears and is heroic, but really the focus is on Clark and the life he leads and those around him, and shows why he is a hero even without the cape and powers. I strongly recommend it to everyone. Go buy the trade!

This scene is originally from Superman #652. Clark's powers have just been returning:

Two things. 1) Yay tea! and 2) Does he wear the boxers with the suit? Cause I know he has the panties on the outside but I'm enough of a perv to wonder what's on underneath.

Oh Clark, did you really think she would be mad?

And that is why I love Lois.

Now go buy that trade.

Ya know, I just might go and buy the trade. I've always liked this story, but I didn't know what it was from.

Yeah, its standing proof that Geoff Johns CAN be a decent writer when he tries (just don't let him near teen heroes though...)

I've found that he does his best work when he has a co-writer, like here (co-writing with Kurt Busiek), on Booster Gold (co-writing with Jeff Katz), or on JSA (with David Goyer).

I'm not sure, but I've added a tag for it. I hope that's okay with the mods.

"Superman: Up, Up, and Away" was one of the first three trades I bought. (It was a three-for-two sale, I got "Superman: Strange Attractors" and the second Superbuddies trade as well.) I've been meaning to re-read it, but I can't find it in my incredibly messy and disorganized room. ARRGH.

Love the writing, love the art, love Lois and Clark. And I love the fact that Lois has to watch him get dressed. Heh.

One thing I thought was odd about OYL, was that in the Superman books the only person who mentioned Kon and his death was Lex flippin' Luthor. I'm sure Clark dealt with it over OYL, but it's something I would have liked to see.

Thanks so much for posting this!

It's true Superman hardly acknowledged his death, but he didn't really do much for him when he was alive either, so at least he's consistent.

Lectured him on the exploiting the S-shield a time or two in the early days. Tended to moralise at him in any team-up. Gave him a Kryptonian name, which was quite a nice touch admittedly, and palmed him off on Ma and Pa Kent rather than take some personal responsibility for his own "son".

I'm betting he wears the briefs outside his tight super-pants because it'd be unsightly to have them show through underneath, but boxers would look a little silly (sillier?) in that combination, so he saves them for when he can relax.
