Pseudo-Clark and Pseudo-Lois
This is from an issue of Supreme, the Superman homage/pastiche comic published in the 90's. In the comic, both Supreme in his secret identity and the Lois Lane figure, Diane Duane, work at a comic book company. They're the artist and writer, respectively, on Omniman, a fictional hero who's ALSO a Superman pastiche. So Supreme's a Superman analog who, in his secret ID, writes about a different, fictional Superman analog. Got all that? Not as confusing as it might sound.

As you might expect, it's a set-up that allows for plenty of meta-commentary in the stories. In issue 50, Supreme, in his Ethan Crane identity, has a long talk with Diana about his love life. The two discuss the pitfalls and perils of superhero relationships.

In '62, Supreme uses a device called the Possibilitron to extrapolate what would happen if he were to get married. His first experiment shows him what married life with his contemporary lover, Judy Jordan, would have been like. It's not a pretty picture.

The Possibilitron's projection for the angel also has an unhappy ending.

The third experiment shows life married to Glory, the Wonder Woman analog. Again, things go sour.

Yes, something happy happens later. Unfortunately, the series never manages to get on with it, really, because the fails.

She eventually deduces his secret identity, which leads to a romance. That lasts a few issues, and then the series stopped coming out. Who knows how it would have concluded or where the whole thing would have ended up?

Why's his hair white? He doesn't look old...is he just one of those weird naturally white-haired characters?

Exposure to supremium, the substance that gave him his powers, turned his hair white (same with his adopted sister Sally).

This and the issue where he rescues Suprema are my favourite issues of Moore's Supreme.

It's really too bad that he never got to finish his run.

I'm partial to all the ones drawn by Chris Sprouse. Out of all the artists for the modern day scenes, it was only under his pencil that the scripts reached their full potential.

Yes. There are two: Supreme: The Story of the Year and Supreme: The Return. Both are excellent.

Yes, there were two:
"Supreme the Story of the Year" collects the first 12 issues and "Supreme the Return" collects the second unfinished year. There is also "Judgment Day" which collects a crossover set in the same universe written by Alan Moore. All three by Checker Publishing.

Linda Lake was the name of Tori Spelling's annoying character on Smallville...I guess Alan Moore hasn't noticed yet, and probably never will. Because it's freakin' Smallville.

I'd be surprised he watched television...not on something.

I've seen him talk about watching Family Guy, South Park, and The Wire in various interviews.

Y'know I just realized. It's Clois week, and if you say "Clois" with a French-like accent, it sounds like "Chloe."

Hmm . . .

One of the people in their ~Justice League appears to be fighting crime with his powers of fly-fishing. I think we may have found the heroing shtick which is sillier than archery, people.

Moore does a hilarious riff on archers in one of his Youngblood issues, as the retired Waxman talks to Shaft, and lists the various archer heroes that he's known of, and their... unfortunate endings... must see if I can dig it out.

I was going to keep it to myself, but the third Possibilitron experiment: There's Supreme sitting next to Midnighter.

Goodnight, Diana. You take care now. ... Door!

In the sort of self-referential construct which was Moore's Supreme, they'd have worked through that one.

Oh, Moore, you sneaky devil. I love it when he plays around with meta-stuff this way. So basically, his wannabe-girlfriend, without knowing it, has inadvertently talked him OUT of taking the next step. Poor guy...
Also, that is a great panel with the faux-League. Look how they're all squirming! Hee hee!
Incidentally, can anyone tell me just who all those characters are, besides Glory and Supreme? I recognize Professor Night, and the guy with the high cape-collar (although I can't remember his name), but the rest are new to me.

Starting with Supreme going clockwise we have;

Supreme, Mighty Man, The Fisherman, The Die-Hard, Fighting American, Roy Roman (The Mer-Master), Glory, Space Hunter and Professor Night

I LOVED "Supreme" -- these Alan Moore issues, anyway. I still miss it, and sometimes go back to reread the stories. I call them "the greatest Superman stories that didn't have Superman in them."
And I wish this version of Supreme--the non-Liefeld, non-testosteronized, non-insane one, could come back

Supreme is definitely my third favorite Moore after Watchmen and V. It's freaking brilliant throughout, and this issue is a pretty great example why.

It's a shame they took it down, but about a year ago, WOWIO.com had the entire run to legally download for free. I was so glad I took advantage of it.
