And of course, we are projecting our own way of thinking onto animals. Dogs and cats do what is in their nature to do; when it lines up with our convenience, they're "good" and when it doesn't, they're "bad."
Dogs are pack animals, we've essentially bred them to remain eternally juvenile beasts dependent on us as their alphas. Cats are more solitary and self-reliant, they have an arrangement with humans that suits them, but they are not domesticated to the same degree that dogs are.
