Remember when Ironman was fun ?

Of course. It happened as soon as Robert Downey Jr. showed up.

oh I agree. Maybe Tony will lighten up once he gets all sorted ( more like the film). This actually right before the big booze binge.

And before that when Fred van Lente was writing. And before that, when Adam Warren was writing.

Fred van Lente wrote Marvel Adventures Iron Man and Adam Warren wrote Iron Man: Hypervelocity, two of the best incarnations/versions of Iron Man that I've ever read.

I remember these issues. As a matter of fact I kept them because this is my favorite run of Iron Man. And, Bethany Cabe. A woman who wasn't weak, an exception at the time.

One of the fun things about classic Marvel: there was no such thing as a "one shot" villain. No matter how obscure or lame, they would *always* turn up again, somewhere, sooner or later. Usually in crowd scenes like this.

Yeah, seeing this just makes you ask, what happened to Bob Layton.

When Ironman used to have a good artist, Tony Stark was a superhero and a businessman, and used to a great sense of humour.

Although, fair cop to those who said MA:Iron Man and Hypervelocity was the better incarnations of IM in the naughties (I agree).

I don't know what the fuck Fraction and Larroca are on. I don't even look at the comic any more.

Been meaning to take a look at the MA stuff, and the art kinda turned me off on Hypervelocity. I thought Fraction's doing some good stuff--more with the first arc, because I think this current stuff is more editorially mandated.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Yes, I can understand the hate on Hypervelocity art

Too clunky, too dark in edges, but compared to Larroca, the man is like... Jim Lee in my eyes.

MA stuff is good. Van Lente wrote the first four issues, and van Lente can write anything. Brilliant, he is.

I'd actually stick with IM if there was a better artist on the book, believe you me. I don't have as much a problem with Fraction as I have with Larroca and the shitty computer 'artist' .

Hey, I remember this--I've probably got it stuck in a longbox somewhere. Remember in Secret War, when Bendis used the same concept--including some of the same villains--and they were supposed to be badass because they had jazzed-up costumes with little glowing green circles and stuff? Yeah, right.

Water Wizard seems like he should be a Flash villain, if only because the name is close to Weather Wizard.

Maybe a few feet out he realized that his scooter had no realistic means of propulsion, and hasn't figured out how to get back since. :)

I like how Water Wizard, out of all of them, has the common sense to vamoose when he realizes he's on the losing end. Everyone else is like 'DOGPILE! Maybe we'll get lucky!' He's the only one going 'Uh-uh. How many times have I been in this situation, doing EXACTLY what they're doing now, and how many times have I gotten my ass kicked doing it? Screw that - I'm not even getting paid for this one. I'm gettin' out while the gettin's good.' Unusual to see that degree of common sense in a villain, particularly such an obscure one.

Maybe that why he wasn't seen again. The other villains beat him to death for making them look bad. :)

Actually, he has been seen again - he changed his name to 'Aqueduct' for a while, and joined a group of radical environmentalist villains. I don't know what he's doing now - maybe he's been killed off - but he had a longish career after his appearance here.

Fuck realism--THAT needs to be in the sequel.

I don't know what it is, but I get a special kind of joy out of seeing groups of C-list supervillains. There's just something awesome about a bunch of people with weird gimmicks who generally get stomped on their own teaming up to...well, get stomped, usually, but in a really fun way.

Squee!

Water Wizard, dude... you're like Hydroman, but not made of water. you're surrounded by water. I think you might be able to produce enough sheer force of water to knock Iron Man on his ass. just saying, dude.
