One panel from Flash: Rebirth, and a question

So who is this? The Pied Piper? And who's he referring to?

It's Dr. Alchemy, and I have no idea what he's talking about.

Which is about par for the course for this issue, which is chock full of FAIL.

Dr. Alchemy, give Piper back his rat and blow out those candles before you start a fire.

Doctor Alchemy, originally Mr Element

Question for anyone who got this: Is Bart in it, or is there any indication he will be in it?

Bart is in this. He's seen with Cassie and Tim. But he's not happy. Still, it's good art, and it's BART!

I'm probably going to sound like some unrepentant fangirl, but doesn't Bart seem...a bit off-character? I thought he always admired his grandfather?

That's what I always thought. But with everything he's been through, maybe something in his head snapped.

I so feel like I'm missing something. Last time I knew anything with Bart, he was in the 31st Century. How is he back in our time? Did I miss his return? Or is all this set before he ever died? x_x I'm so lost...

Lo3W #4 and #5 haven't been released yet (they were supposed to be in November/December respectively, and got pushed back god-knows-how-many times); he'll likely be going to the past at the end of the series.

Yeah May and June for those. I just hope it does show him coming back. Or else, I'll be even more confused.

Re: Bart's reaction in this book. I saw it as 'How come Barry came back, but not Max?'

Yeah I saw that too. Bart's always had that view though. But it still doesn't make much sense why he seems to hate his own grandfather. It's not like Barry asked to come back. He actually doesn't think he should be.

It jsut occurred to me that if Barry had escaped the Speed Force in IC then it's possible that Bart wouldn't have gone through the upaging and death.

Of course it could be possible he feels the celebration for Barry really is belittling Wally.

The way I see it, Bart does feel its belittling Wally, and he does miss Max, but as Bart said "something feels off". Bart has a bit of a stronger connection to the Speed Force since he returned after IC (where he absorbed the entire Speed Force in order to return to Earth), and its evident from the last page (I won't spoil it) that SOMETHING is wrong with the Speed Force, so I think Bart's picking up on that and knows, much like the fans, that Barry shouldn't be alive.

I had that feeling too--that Bart is being used as the fanboy's response for Barry coming back. That, and I believe the issue has him saying that him working with Wally and being a Flash at one point himself also gives him his perspective.

Yeah, he had mentioned at one point how he only came back so things could be like old times, but with Barry coming back and presumably being Flash again, things wouldn't be like old times.

Doctor Alchemy predates the Hobgoblins by over two decades.

For either of those, though, wouldn't that mean that Alchemist would have to know Barry's identity? Does he?

I think everyone knows Barry's identity these days.

Dr. Alchemy has all sorts of weirdness going on.

Al Desmond (who was both Mr. Element AND Dr. Alchemy) definitely knows Barry Allen; he was a friend of Barry's in his civilian identity.

Al has had some wibbly multiple personality things going on, though. He has a civilian and a criminal personality, and for a while there the Philosopher's Stone separated them into distinct physical entities.

Barry once shocked him from Dr. Alchemy back to Al Desmond by taking his mask on and off at super-speed, so that Desmond saw the Flash and his trusted friend Barry simultaneously. Al went cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs a few times after that, so some melding of memories and association of Barry with the Flash wouldn't surprise me.
