Ninja Turtles Adventures #43: A History of the Future.
That's a pretty sweet robot on the cover.
Photobucket
The turtles take it down in two panels.

In Part One of the Future Shark Trilogy: The modern-day TMNT, plus Splinter and Ninjara, are recruited by future Don and Raph to help rescue future Mike and Leo. They've been kidnapped by Armaggon, a mutant shark, who has teamed up with classic villain Shredder and new villain Verminator-X. Time travel? Middle-aged Mutant Ninja Turtles? Confused? Don't worry, Don's going to fill us in on the weather.

Aah, this stuff is just too great. Even the colouring makes me glee!

Raph2 talking to Raph1. Donatello wearing.. what, a lounging robe and a belt of pouches? A shark with sharky nubby legs!

I really don't know that I could ask for much more in a book.

Thanks for the scans! :D

It's Don's science coat! For science things! I might need to post a scan later with his extending science staff with blaster option.

I love that thing. I don't know what the toy was supposed to come with, weapon-wise, but I think this thing pretty well trumped it.

You'd think the Ninja Turtles, of all beings, would not be keen on hunting wolvesrats from helicopters...

Man, the pic of the Future Turtles for their bio makes them look realy weird. It's like the artist was trying for the Eastman & Laird originals and failed.

"Verminator X...quite the public enemy". I see what they did there. Did he ever team up with a mutant mallard named Duck D?

The art in the sourcebooks was by A. C. (Craig) Farley who did two issues and tons of covers for the Mirage book. He's one'a my favorite turtle artists.

I read this series in Swedish despite being a mite too old for the TMNT phenomenon at the time. I guess since I'd seen the cartoon (and dismissed it as being uninteresting) I didn't expect the comics to be plot-driven and rather interesting.

I still wish there'd be a collected edition or two of the TMNT Adventures series, including the spin-offs. My collection is far from complete.

There will be. They're putting out a collection of the two future-Turtles arcs (as a lead-in to the publication of "The Forever War"), as well as a collection of the mini that led to the Adventures series, which is being touted as "Volume 1."

Don't know if they'll do the various spin-offs and specials, though. T'wouldst be most awesome, though.

Interesting. I'd prefer a couple of thick volumes reprinting everything from the start, though. A lot of other series of significantly lesser quality get those.

Maybe they'll do larger collections once they get to the series itself.

I think it's best to start with the Future TMNT stories, since those are some really rarely-seen quality work. The early TMNT Adventures took a while to find their footing. It would also be great to see the Black Hole Trilogy in a collection.

Agreed; it seems they most want to do the most relevant stuff to lead in to the Forever War, in order to wrap things up on the 25th anniversary. Perhaps after that, if sales are good, they'll go back and fill in the blanks, maybe re-release the Future Tense stuff chronologically.

Speaking of the 25th anniversary, I would so love it if the Future Turtles, Ninjara, Verm-X, or Armaggon showed up in TMNT Smash-Up.

Easy Way: edit so that humongo-pic is inside the cut
Skilled Way: add the dimensions to the 'img src=' code
Bad Way: wait 'till the mods (and other SDers) all get pissed

Aw, don't just change he dimensions in the html. It'll still take just as long to load. Think of the dial-up people!

The best way would be to re-size and re-upload the picture, but that's the hard way, too.

Photobucket lets you edit the image, then save over the previous image so you don't need to replace the image link. That seems to work pretty well.

That's surprisingly deep stuff from the two Raphs - it must really be a bummer, being the only four of your kind in existence. No way to reproduce, no way to pass on your legacy, no next generation - when you're gone, you're GONE. Bummer. That being said, I find it difficult to believe that, in a world with all sorts of other mutant animals, there are only the four mutant turtles. I mean, cat mutants, shark mutants, this-that-and-the-other mutants - why aren't there any more turtles? I don't know what is causing all these other mutants to pop up - I mean, just how much mutagen IS there? - but if they still are, I should think that at some point some more turtles would, too, especially if the cities are being flooded - expansion of oceans means a lot more amphibians and marine animals.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]blake_reitz
2009-03-31 09:27 am UTC (link)
The way I saw it, mutating another batch of turtles with humans would give you a different "mix," so you'd end up with mutant turtles, just not the same kind of mutant turtles. I've also got a theory for the large number of mutants in the future, being that all those mutagen-filled sewers (and let's face it, in present day TMNT all you had to do to be mutated was go into the sewers)finally flooded, hitting just about everyone on the first few floors of NYC. You would think there would be more sea-creatures, but maybe they live mostly underwater, in the ruins.

[info]psychop_rex
2009-03-31 04:14 pm UTC (link)
That's not necessarily the case - look at Slash. He's a mutated turtle of a slightly different breed (a snapper), and apart from a few spikes on his shell and a mouthful of sharp teeth - and, uh, the fact that he's crazy - he's basically the same as the TMNT. (I know, I know - in the Archie series, he was really an alien. But he originated as a mutant in the cartoon, so that's how I'm going to refer to him.)

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]blake_reitz
2009-03-31 04:23 pm UTC (link)
Weirdly, I would have used Slash as my counter-example! I always thought he was more feral because of a differing ratio, leaving him more turtle than the TMNT. On the other hand, if we go with the Archie version, why don't the TMNT just zip over to his home planet, filled with turtle folk?

[info]psychop_rex

It was subjected to cut-and-burn tactics, wasn't it? Which may or may not have wiped out the population - I got the impression that Slash was, if not the last of his kind, at any rate one of a very few.

I'd forgotten about that. Aliens came and stole all of planet's palm trees before killing the population.
