But those pirate sites are /male/ dominated spaces. /co/ and /pco/ have been having fits lately because female (and male) slashers have invaded their space (some of us had to literally shove people from the Watchmen threads onto lj to keep people from being driven off by trolls), which is why there is no /coq/ - so they don't have to see it.
This is not to say that I think that sort of attitude is the majority one for male fans (whether they be comics, video games, role playing ,etc) just the more vocal ones.
I think because scans_daily started as mostly slash based its original members were mostly female slashers, so that those that joined later be they male or female had to at least tolerate that talking about slashing, fanfiction, and more serious topics like 'Women in Refrigerators'.
At the end we were not a female dominated space or even a 'safe' space but a space more accepting than many comic forums out there. Our darkest period was ironically during Marvel's Civil War I think, when teh_no still made himself...known.
