Thing is you're only happy if it's a literal definition. The song uses irony in the technically incorrect, but colloquially quite correct...unless you're suggesting she's the only one who uses irony in that manner. Most people as far as I'm aware use the word in a very broad "cosmic irony" sense and we understand each other perfectly. Everyone got what she meant....except the grammar nazis. Sure sure, say she should be damned to hell for promoting the wrong definition, but honestly? Not a lot of people care. This is a basic facet of any human language. We mess around with grammar. We broaden definitions. Heck, if anything the controversy has gotten more people aware of the proper definition.
Definitely not a failure of basic human communication, unless it's impossible to understand people unless their grammar is perfect. That's just exaggeration. The rape/sex thing would get that reaction from people because, well...you're talking about rape as if it were just sex. She didn't write a song about Marvel.
