That story like this one was based on something real . The crew of U-235 ,the last boat to surrender at first claimed to have taken Hitler to South America.

It's always interesting when we see a reasonably sympathetic portrayal of a Nazi. Hegel is obviously someone who obeys orders, but puts the safety of his crew first, which is a laudable attitude regardless of what side you're on.

The film is about a U-boat crew in 1943 when thing started to turn against the Kriegsmarine . The hunters became the hunted. Great film. Wolfgang Peters best.
