Which is my point exactly -- while I like obsessive compulsive Batman, this is the Bruce that royally fucked with, up and over the two young teens who had desperately come to rely on him (an effort that would likely make even Jack Bauer pause in disbelief). What happens here isn't Bruce-bashing, because it's sadly entirely consistant with his portrayal pretty much everywhere else at the time, which essentially means that The Hiketea for all it's invokation of ancient history couldn't have been written at any other time except when it was.
This is a situation where it was literary impossible for Diana to compromise and Bruce, for all his distrust and disdain of magic, should surely have known enough about the circumstances to work honestly within that framework to resolve matters
