Happy Halloween ! See you in the pumpkin patch...
Halloween week.

You can't have Halloween week without some Kelly Jones art.

This was a really cool idea for a story. There is a being trapped in a place that has trapped travelers to the new world Romans, Vikings,St, Brenden,Spaniards ( no Chinese ,sorry 1421) and used them to try and enter our reality. Deadman and the Phantom Stranger try to put a stop to it.

The one thing I like about superbeings like the Stranger? They seem to know every single other character in the DCU. It's not just his near-omniscience, he's really been around so much he knows who the right people are for each job. You see that sometimes with Supes and Bats, but the Stranger would even call on forgotten little guys to help out.

DC's got a wealth of cast-off C- through Z-listers, I wish they'd get more focus in compelling stories (though all these back-up series aren't a bad idea).

The Great Pumpkin is a false paternalistic idol designed to distract children, via greed, from their true savior, Jack Skellington. Repent, heretic!

Pah. Your Pumpkin, who never shows up. A dog dresses as him in mockery, and not only is not struck down, is rewarded with a lucrative insurance career. Your Pumpkin is merely food for fruit flies.

Jack Skellington just dresses as the Great Pumpkin for Halloween.

"One day a man shot me for no apparent reason."

Were you in Reno at the time, by chance?

Kelley Jones does gorgeously horrific artwork, but I'm not sure I like the way he draws Deadman. I get that Deadman has gotten thinner and more skeletal-looking the longer he spends time as a ghost, but he looks really bizarre here - his ribs and backbone are sticking out in unnatural ways, and his collar, which is supposed to be broad and Dracula-like, is here about four inches wide and sticking straight up like a ruler, when it's included at all. Deadman looking creepy I have no problem with, but this version of Deadman is just frickin' WEIRD.

Yes, people tended to either love it or hate it :)

I don't hate it, per se, I'm just weirded out by it.
