Simon Dark #1
Since Halloween is just about here for me it's time to post a Halloween esque story, meet Simon Dark!

Meets Gotham City's greatest new hero!

If anyone really wants me to I'll continue posting after this, let me know.

I absolutely loved the Simon Dark series and while I can only show you so much hopefully you will too.

We open to a secluded area of Gotham where dark things are going on....

But from the shadow's comes a hero to save the day...

...violently.

The other members of the dark group decide to go having gathered enough sacrifices and Simonis content in having chased them away.

One of the other main characters of the serious, part of Simon;s cast is Beth Granger. Who does autopsies and a few pages ago came upon the bodies of the victim and the bad guy Simon beheaded.

We then move on to another pair father and daughter who've just moved into the city and will get to know Simon well in the future issues.

And so we end our story with a view of Simon and his humble abode, kitty included.

Simon was a very fun character, I was honestly in love with the series and couldn't wait each issue to read. He's a homage to many other fictional characters. His face/mask is very evocative of Michael Mayers. As we'll later see his origin is very Frankensteinish. His outfit and the fact he has a song for him shows his Freddy Kruger likeness, particularly with children being his target, but for protection rather than terror as Freddy does. His empathy with children could even be somewhat related to Jason Voorhes and Frankenstein since he protects them when no one else can.

Simon was hands down one of my favorite new DC characters in a while. I really want him to start showing up around the DCU.

While he seems like quite an interesting character if he usually uses lethal force like that on criminals in Gotham you'd have thought some member of the Bat-family would have tracked him down.

Yeah him being in Gotham and being active was something lots of people found odd. Though the killing was a one time thing as far as Simon goes (at least from what we know).

I was hoping to see him meet Batman eventually but who knows, maybe it was going to happen if the series went on, no way of knowing.

I am intriqued by this series now. How long did it run for?

18 issues. 3 6 issue trades are all out now as well for the whole series.

Simon is a frankenstein monster. At that point he assumed that people could be sewn back together.

I'm not saying he doesn't have a justifiable reason. I'm just saying that killing criminals like that should have attracted at least one of the Bat Family.

Simon's next victim was a serial killer. So the Bat family is not omniscient, at least in the context of this book.

I really wanted to like Simon Dark, but the pacing was kind of slow and I really didn't understand why this was set in Gotham.

There's also a wee bit of the Crow in the guy, which I can get behind.

He also kinda reminds me a bit of Brother Power, the Geek, what with his rag doll look and his relatively innocent approach to life.

Reminds me of Hei from Darker than Black.

Thanks for this!

You just made me a fan! =)

What touched my heart the most was when he fed his cat and when all he requested from the person he saved was food and the guy handed him all the money in his wallet. That little bit of gratefulness was heartwarming.
