Now with words!
The preview for next week's Incredible Hercules: Assault on New Olympus Prologue has arrived, and, unlike the approximately 50 billion previous images, his time there's stuff to read.

The recap:

And the rest.

Comments:

- Cover: I like that they're keeping the title-design that premiered with Albuquerque's covers; it's nice and distinctive. Not sure about the placement of the "also featuring" part, but whatever.

- Perhaps the deaths of Sharra and K'ythri are meant to show why the Shi'ar Empire took such a big fall lately (similar to how the deaths of Kly'bn and Sl'gr't crippled the Skrulls).

- Seems Hera took advantage of Zeus' death/rebirth to play the field, now that their marriage could be said to be over. Good for her, I guess. Similar to past questions about Delphyne, what do Typhon's snakes do while they're in bed?

Can't wait for this, especially since this is the new home for Agents of Atlas.

And while it still sucks the AoA ongoing was canceled due to sales, at least we now have a book with two fantastic stories that justifies a 4 dollar price tag.

Ahh, Hera. You've just been notified through your own prophetic visions that Very Bad Things are heading your way, but your immediate concern is your petty little vendetta against the only relative you have that actually has a chance of doing something effective about it.

I can't help but see Hera as the evil Janeway from that Voyager episode where a bunch of aliens recover the backup copy of the Doctor.

I loved that episode; for a series that generally sucked, Voyager had some really incredible individual episodes that showed you what the series could have been if the producers and writers had had the freedom to do what they wanted.

Yeah, Voyager had some good individual stuff -- I'd say that season 4 is probably its strongest season and that's entirely down to the conflict in personalities and methodologies between the newly assimlated and Seven and the rest of the crew. A microcosm of the same conflict the series has seemingly been predicated on before they cut off Chakotay's balls in order not to undermine the franchise's first ongoing female captain.

What we should have gotten with Voyager was something more akin to the crazy dynamism of Farscape of people who don't want to be together in a place none of them want to be.

Of all the extreme lameness that the show was guilty of, the thing that never sat right with me was Harry Kim's static rank. If you accept that "well, we don't have the sort of situation here to justify increasing folks' rank", the demotion of Tom Paris from Lt down to Ensign should have theoretically provded the space within that closed system for Harry to move up a grade or two. Instead, the writers left hi at the bottom of the pecking order and just reinstated Tom a year later.

Gah, I love this plotline like cake, and I realise Aphrodite is not meant to be nice, but I could really do with less casual racism. *sigh*

Does he really speak in haikus?

Really?

Haikus are so cool.
Why shouldn't he speak with them?
You are just jealous.

Because it doesn't make sense?  It doesn't even fit what is supposed to be a haiku, which is more than just a 5-7-5 construction.  I don't see any thinking beyond, "Herp, he's Japanese, therefore haikus."

I would love Greg Pak to write a Shazam title for DC. Herc's book should be the template for it. The Incredible Hercules is one of the most entertaining books on the market, it stars a super-hero and takes place in normal 616 MU and it's fun! Is that so hard?

If you were picking just one of the writers, I think Van Lente contributes more to the atmosphere (particularly the dialogue), based on their solo writing.
