Aww... Fisk isn't so bad after all.

Apparently the Kingpin can be bought with sandwiches.

Might not. Fisk seems like the kind of guy that if you pay at the rate you establish it will be alright.

Maybe. But Felicia is connected to Spider-Man and that makes me think that Fisk is going to fuck with her.

I don't think this is going to get referenced again; it was just a throwaway gag.

Heh, this makes me think of one of my favourite little bits in the 90s Spidey TAS, when Fisk finances Peter's wedding to reward him for saving his life (having earlier given him a "reward" that was actually framing him for his son's crimes), and actually turns out to have no ulterior motive for once.

You know, for all the crap and vitriol aimed at MARVEL DIVAS when it was announced, it turned out to be a pretty good read.

Yeah, especially when you compare it to the awful blandness of Gotham Sirens, which everyone said it was meant to be ripping off...

I don't know, minus the "sudsy fun," it pretty much ended up being exactly what A-S said it would be - an examination of four women trying to make it in a man's world. Which... was very well-rendered, sure, and rang relatively true. But it doesn't make sense for the characters involved (particularly the men, Drumm and Hellstrom were way past the point of parody), and even if it did, that's an odd level of helplessness and reactive, initiativeless impotence to assign to a bunch of superheroes.

Like, what do they do? They can't help their friend, so they go to Reed. Felicia's got no money, so she goes to Fisk. Hellstrom shows up of his own accord and they can only respond to him (and make a very poor deal with him, one which they get nothing out of that they didn't have before he showed up and which he benefits from significantly) - and they can only respond to him by going to Drumm for mystic mojo, and aren't able to actually hurt him at all. They spend the whole mini just reacting, and trying to catch up, and never quite doing so, and their only useful resource for anything is the men they know. It's just lame. I don't really get the point of a superhero who can't actually accomplish anything, you know?

Yeah, but that's pretty much every single Marvel hero right now. With the exception of the Dark Avengers and other such killtastic characters, current Marvel doesn't seem to think that heroes in general can get much of anything done.

I agree it was a good read and good fun. And it fulfilled nicely my desire for a book where women have friendships (Gotham Sirens is definitely not doing it) I wonder if this is going to be an ongoing? I hate the idea of a "female writer for a book with women" cliche but I'd like to see Kathryn Immonen on this. I really liked her Patsy Walker mini last year. In an ongoing, though, I would like to see more superheroing.

It's not a bad read, but the characters within it aren't the characters from other comic books. Except _possibly_ Nextwave Monica.

I mean really, that one liner about Alaska from Patsy just doesn't match _anything._ Nor does Daimon anywhere, nor does Felicia being passive, nor does, nor does... nor... I mean, it's not bad, but it's like they draped the flesh of characters we know over pre-posed statuettes.

Well, it did absolutely nothing for me, but then I'm far from the target audience. Still, I find comics that ONLY appeal to a specific target audience to be missing the whole damn point.

I agree, this miniseries has been pretty fun and entertaining, as expected from Roberto.
I'm kind of said about the vitriol that the initial solicitations recieved, quite a few people probably passed up on a perfectly fine book, just becaus Marvel advertising totally dropped the ball.
You'd think everyone would know by now that the solicitations department at Marvel's was run by a bunch of chimps with Downs Syndrome.

I dunno; I don't know much about his character, but I heard the Hellstrom plot was pretty OOC.

I don't know him too well either, but he is the devil (or.. something?), so why wouldn't he be a lying bastard?

[info]bluefall

He's the devil's son, actually, and he rejected his heritage, spent most of his life battling the occult, and was even a Defender for a while. He wouldn't be a lying bastard because... the whole point of him is that he isn't. He's your basic demonic version of Vision, turning on his evil parent.

Him double-crossing Patsy like that is especially epic fail, though, since his whole thing is he loves her dearly and he's the one who got her out of Hell in the first place. Actually AFAIK last we heard from them as a couple was him pushing her away because he loved her too much to subject her to being with him.

It's kind of why I rolled my eyes at the sheer unadulterated fanrage when it was coming out. People were angry when the covers were shown and a small blurb. I seriously did not get it.

Oh, I dunno. I didn't mind the covers and liked the basic catch of the book, but it was when I actually bought two issues that I was disgusted enough to put it down. Too.... lifetimey in its treatment of men and how women should react to them.
