Krypto vs. Atlas!

This is from Superman #679-680. It's written by  James Robinson and  illustrated by Renato Guedes.

At the end of #679, Atlas (working with someone later to be revealed as Sam Lane) has challenged and defeated Superman.

Before you go any further, you should read the first few pages of Krypto's battle with Atlas over here.

The energy hitting Krypto is something that weakens Kryptonians.

Superman runs off and gets Zachary Zatara to give him some magical protection, and then he returns and finishes off Atlas. Everyone starts cheering for him.

Krypto's such a good boy!

I'm betting that satellite room business is some kind of orbital magic cannon.

Now if only they would bring back Ace.

Guys, I have to be real with y'all-- I'm honestly kind of disturbed by this. Superman at the end, yelling at everyone that Krypto is a hero, Lois being all dramatic about how amazing Krypto is, and Krypto actually, like, drawing blood from Atlas-- they're all ridiculous, but they're written seriously here, and the result is really bizarre. I mean, I have a dog, and I love my dog, but this is just kind of grotesque to me . . . idk.

yeaahhh....the first few issues of Robinson's Superman run were a bit rough to say the least. The dialogue here (and in the unposted pages throughout both issues) is a lil obtuse and OoC and that page of Steel and Bibbo getting randomly slapped up is so jarring, it's hilarious. But god was the Jimmy Olsen Special even worse. (but it's gotten better, I swear!!)

It'd be fun to see Atlas go up against a Marvel or a Wonder. With the Marvels, they'd be up against the guy who's the source of their godly Stamina. With the Wonders, he shares some history with Donna, a fellow Titan, and with Cassie, daughter of the god who forced him to hold up the sky, and the half-sister of the demigod who outsmarted him.

I loved the beat down Krypto gave Atlas, but Superman's declaration ruined it. It sounded douchey to me, especially after his interaction with Zatara earlier in the issue. Idk, James Robinson seems to like concocting scenarios where people act baldly unreasonable, thoughtless, or evil so they can be proven wrong and get their comeuppance in the most eye-rolling way possible.

Superman's speech sounded weird and over-dramatic. So did parts of Lois's monologue. Nevertheless, Krypto is a very good boy, yes he is. *hugs* ^___^

Heh, "happy" should be accompanied by tail-wagging, which would be kind of blurry at a happy Kryptonian speed.

Lois is in the right by me. If the dog destroys the kitchen, he goes out to the doghouse fortress. I might be biased, since I love cats and dogs, but cats much more than dogs.

Clark went to Zachary? I hope Zac lives in Metropolis. Could be a context thing, but I'd give Zatanna a ring first, distance being no object to magicians.

Jeez, James Robinson soaks up melodrama like a sponge and then squeezes it all over his writing. This dialogue is even worse than Firefly, if that were possible.

I always found this scene to be a little off, since the last time Krypto attacked and almost killed someone, Superman was really bothered about it.

Of course, Clark isn't really that much in character here, so I suppose that's a bit of moot point.
