I never saw anything that good with her portrayal under Stern or Busiek. Not bad either (okay, there were definitely some moments I hated) but she had no depth whatsoever. You'd think everything that happened to Hank might have had an effect on her, but it was quickly swept under the rug. Do you remember Stern's (brilliant) first issue, with Hank Pym in his jail cell pondering the mess his life had become, and where he should go from there? If we'd gotten a reciprocal scene like that for Wasp, some look into her thoughts, some hint of emotional depth and turmoil, something to indicate that she wasn't dead behind the eyes... I don't think we'd be having this conversation. And after that scene we got Hank starting on a new path, up against Egghead and the Masters. Janet didn't get anything comparable, she just took over the team and that was that. Now Stern was a hell of a lot better than Shooter, don't get me wrong, and he added emotional depth to Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, and even Spider-woman. But he never showed us what made Wasp tick. She was just there.
And as for Busiek... he's an incredibly talented writer, but he hooked her back up with Pym, all smiles and no depth.
It would be totally doable to modify her and give her an origin more in line with Marvel Adventures' Janet (a great character) since we've barely seen a single panel of her life before meeting Pym. It'd be easy to give her some depth. But nobody has, and with every decade that passes it becomes a bigger embarrassment.
