This was a beautiful story, especially since we got to see things from Magneto's POV, which is rare. It was extremely illuminating as to his character. If there is one story arc someone reads to understand who Magneto is, this is it.
And in and of itself, the story is very entertaining and well told.
The little moment o' lust between Magneto and Rogue was a lovely touch in the midst of Magneto's moral and identity crisis following the events that separated him from the X-Men.
But I wish to GAWD Lobdell had not latched onto it and kept trying to shove down that pairing down our throats. It's lovely moment in this one story, but as an actual 'ship it just did not work on multiple levels. I was *so* happy when Scott Pruett put the lid on that non-relationship in Magneto Rex. It was also part of what ended up trashing Rogue, turning her into a co-dependent train wreck though the 1990's. It's only in the last year that Carey has actually rehabilitated her from that.
And given that in Legacy #223, they were both standing there saying, "It wouldn't have worked." I think the Magneto-Rogue cover in the previews is probably just an homage.
