Marvel Previews for the New Year

Basically what the title says.

BLACK WIDOW: DEADLY ORIGIN #3 (of 4)
Written by PAUL CORNELL
Penciled by TOM RANEY & JOHN PAUL LEON
Cover by ADI GRANOV
Time is running out for the on-the-run Black Widow as the sinister Icepick Protocol sets Clint Barton against Mockingbird—and Hercules against everybody! With flashbacks to her days with Daredevil and the Champions, and the final revelation of who is trying to destroy her life, the clock is ticking on Natasha’s life!

"Icepick" made me think of Basic Instinct for whatever reason. Anyway, wonder who the "everybody" in question is?

FANTASTIC FOUR #575
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Penciled by DALE EAGLESHAM
Cover by ALAN DAVIS
Marvel Women Variant by JELENA KEVIC-DJURDJEVIC
Kicking off the world-spanning new adventures of the Fantastic Four, this is part one of the Prime Elements arc: The Hidden City of the High Evolutionary!
Featuring the return of the Mole Man, the architecture of the underworld, and the smartest Moloid you'll ever meet.
Don't miss it!

Good covers run in the marriage, apparently.

INVINCIBLE IRON MAN #22
Written by MATT FRACTION
Art & 50/50 Cover by SALVADOR LARROCA
50/50 Cover by PATRICK ZIRCHER
The heart and soul of the Marvel Universe gathered to bring Tony back online...but when they flipped the switch, nothing happened. What do you do when the smartest man in the world is trapped inside his own subconscious? Doctor Donald Blake reaches out for a specialist...Doctor Strange! And meanwhile...the Ghost closes in, ready to assassinate Tony Stark once and for all.

The design on these new covers is neat, but so far there's been precious little to distinguish one from the next.

Also, given the rough outlines of the case described above, I think my first call would be to Professor X, not to Dr. Strange.

Hmm, it will be interesting to see Tony show up fine in Siege but still brain-dead in his own book unless he's showing up the the very end of Siege.

Judging by the way Daredevil is about to strangle Black Widow, I'm guessing he is the one trying to destroy her life.

Yeah, that Sue cover's pretty neat. That's exactly the kind of thing that could get me to pick up a title on impulse.

Yes, but they know that they would have to wait, because Prof. X is always busy, while Dr. Strange really needs new cases to pay his bills.

What do you do when the smartest man in the world is trapped inside his own subconscious?

So basically:

$dumb_story =~ s/Ted Kord/Tony Stark/g;
$dumb_story =~ s/Dr\. Fate/Dr\. Starnge/g;

Gotta give the guy props for trying. Just because he's a small ugly little fellow, he still takes his responsibility as ruler quite seriously. We're supposed to respect Namor and Aquaman for their regalness. The fact Moleman is a rather skeevy variation on the same shouldn't be held against him too much. IIRC he did love his queen.

I remember reading the interviews with the writer before this run started. He basicly outright said that Moleman whasn't much of a villian. He has his subterranean kingdom, his people and is pretty pleased with that as long as nobody disturbs the peace.

The point being that F4 could use some new threats.

Ohhh, I adore that Sue cover. Marvel Women Variant? I hope all the variants are this awesome. I would love that as a poster. And she's a normal size! Her torso would totally fit a full set of internal organs, her boobs aren't colossal, and she's got muscles!

I love the picture too, but I'd have to disagree on your assessment of Sue's bosom. It is definitely ample there.

Still, gotta love the badassry of the pic.

Her bosom is certainly ample. Generous, even. But not colossal. She is well-proportioned, and I have not the slightest fear her spine will snap.

It also looks like a bosom, rather than two captive balloons glued to her chest. They're shaped like natural breasts! And they look as if they'd squish rather than pop if you prodded them. I can't even see nipples forcing their way through her costume! THIS WILL NEVER CATCH ON.

True. When will artists catch on that the sexiest comic book women are the ones that look like real women? With, you know, spines and organs and stuff?

This picture is sooooo cool.

Sue is the one woman in comics I actually want to look at and her power is invisability. *sigh*

If it's the story I'm thinking of, he'd been locked into a virtual reality inside his head, which (hopefully) won't be the same thing.

Adi Granov's work is good, but bbrrr, just very cold. I don't know how to explain it.

White neutral light, very geometric compositions and smooth shading with an emphasis on texture that still manages to come off as too sterile.

I simply think it's too clean.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

LOL, I like clean

After all the dodge and 'burn' textures making the work look muddy in a lot of comics (looking at you, Iron Man), I. Like. Clean.

:D

I like clean too. I sacrifice to its altar. But I'm talking about irregularities, messups, things that are imperfect and makes it seem alive.

Messy dodge and burn shading isn't even discussed or included here, that's both lazy and incredibly ugly (like when some colorist emphazise the cheeks so much everybody looks like mutant chipmunks).
It's as simple as when an artist strokes are visible.

Not sure, I'll ask Gary Oldman,

Also, given the rough outlines of the case described above, I think my first call would be to Professor X, not to Dr. Strange.

Honestly, I think it's probably a case of one is about as good as the other if it's a neurological or psychological problem, with the bonuses that Strange won't be out of his depth if there turns out to be a mystical cause and won't have about 50 mutant students tagging along picking fights with any superheroes present (or each other).

I'm more concerned that Tony is being described as the smartest man in the world. Did Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom get killed off recently without me noticing?

Tony's suffered skillbloat over the last few years, in tandem with him being pushed as the center of the MU. I preferred it when he was a genius engineer but otherwise only talented scientifically. Made the MU more interesting when there was skill differentials between science-hero types.

This canvas is designed in 1888 and its geometry and sobriety make it timeless. Since 1996, replica handbags has launched a complete line of city and travel Louis Vuitton bags and small leather goods in Damier canvas.
