"Damsel in distress screaming "help me!" in an easily escapable situation"
Crow: You gotta want to help yourself.

I love it when two great minds think alike.

I'd say about 50% of the time, when there's something there to threaten.

Hopefully this will lead to a reappearance of Temi in the Wonder Woman title. She has been gone too long and I actually really like the way Gail addresses her relationship with Diana here.

Plus, Diana needs more friends that aren't dead/gone/in a coma/villainesses.

I was wondering if someone else had done about six or so pages there, some painful faces, but didn't think to check.

I ran into it the same way, and couldn't figure out why it didn't look like Nicola's stuff at all until I flipped back to the title page and saw the shared credit.

Ouch, what happened to banshee lady's throat? Diana ticked off at the death scream thingy she used before?

"Ouch, what happened to banshee lady's throat?"

Some former Amazon who likes to cut herself fought banshee with her big sharp blades. Banshee was so lost in thought at the prospect of having neck cut, she actually thought her head was off!

"Diana ticked off at the death scream thingy she used before?"

Surprisingly, not a single thing is mentioned about that. After the amazons give control of the island back to the security folk, Diana pretty has a talk with Savage and tells her team to get as far away from her as possible. I guess that's her anger towards Banshee for the time being. Still, nice knowing that Diana doesn't hold direct grudges.

I think you might misunderstand the question, Jeyl, no offense, or maybe I do. I think the question is about Jeannette, who still has a bloody scar from having been decapitated at her husband's request, which is why she wears the choker.

So, is there anything in the issue that justifies why this is possible? As it is, it just looks like the natural Amazon response to being threatened is mass suicide, which we know is not the case.

Just that the island is an evil place.

Context helps, though; Artemis is the only one who, no matter what they did to her, didn't break, resisted all efforts at behavior modification (and this is the DCU, that's a lot of possible horrific efforts indeed). This demands that the rest of the Bana did break. They're broken here. They're just bearing it well, because they're amazons. Take it back to Artemis herself, and maybe she never gave her captors the satisfaction, but that doesn't mean she didn't feel it. She's got weeks or months of abuse on her as well, plus she's failed her people, plus the torture came right on the heels of Shamazons. If she's a lot more inclined to despair here than an amazon should ever be, well, she's also just been through more than an amazon should ever endure.

That hug Diana gave her was of insufficient length. However long it was. I don't care if they stood there for two days. Not long enough.

Hmm. I get what you're saying, but that kind of makes the whole thing worse, given that it's the one who survived with her judgment mostly intact who is deciding that they should all die.

Speaking of Diana, is like the 1st mention she's made to looking for the amazons after Shamazons?

And does she really think after all they've been through that the Bana are going to accept Achilles and the Gargareans?

This is in fact the first we've seen her show the expected responsibility or concern for her people, yes.

And does she really think after all they've been through that the Bana are going to accept Achilles and the Gargareans?

I don't know that she's given it any thought at all. Rescuing them would be the priority. Logic dictates the big role Temi has in the next WW ish would be a giant OH FUCK NO about the whole Achilles thing, but since Akila and her fragment of the Bana have been there all along and haven't yet said a peep, who knows?

Oh good, because I was getting a vibe identical identical to Bruce's "I wasn't quite sure she was dead, so no case" thing with Steph.

At best her concern's arisen from the failure of Artemis and the others to materialise after Zeus did her work for her.

At worst, it comes across as a self-aggrandising move to stop them blowing their brains out.

More than that, it all makes her stint at Metahuman Affairs even more laughable & perverse. The island is a sanctioned American facility -- I'm so not even going to start touching the hypocracy behind that -- so presumably its existence is exactly the sort of thing she (or even Tom) should have been seen to uncover. This storyline is exactly what Diana's own title should have been building towards: she and Tom and Eta should individually have been coming across clues to the fate of the Amazon diaspora, hints that these essentially innocent women were being abducted and incarcerated, finally discovering the existence and location of the island.

The island that is being run by Dr Psycho and possibly used as the construction location of Genocide -- the island is a festering hellmouth of a place to begin with and could easily have been the site of a genocide as the entire native population were exterminated by ettlers/explorers/pirates -- who serves the story function of Grendel here and is part of the reason why everyone except Artemis is so broken.

That's the point at which Zeus comes in and hits the magic recall button, reawakening the incarcerated Amazons, breaking at least in part the glamour the Island is exerting over them.

Diana and her friends launch a rescue mission. The Six are already there as per this storyline, leading to a proper cross-over between the two titles. Genocide has her first huge fight with Diana and escapes with the lasso. Psycho also escapes. Temi and the Amazons -- including Tom, to the consternation/irritation of the rescued -- take Diana home to see to her injuries. Events proceed essentially as written with Zeus appointing the Gargareans overlordship of the Amazons. Diana leaves, Temi wants to follow her but stays because she doesn't want to abandon her sisters (and along with Philipus will be the core of the eventual resistance).

Tom & Diana leave. Diana defeats Genocide & loses Tom essentially as written.

But instead all we get is Diana dropping in here as a demi-deus ex machina, pretending to a concern and actions she's singularly failed to demonstrate.

I love Artemis so much it's disgusting.

As for where the escapee Amazons end up, check out the next issue of Wonder Woman. It's pretty cool. And Temi (I am stealing Bluefall's abbreviation) has a big, big role.

She posted an excerpt of her script on CBR...she was responsible for Temi's "I coulda shot her in a leg...nowhere near an artery...." at the very least, which was one of her best moments. I knew it!

The whole "pray to our gods" thing is kind of weird considering these are Bana Amazons. And mentioning Athena especially is kind of off.

On the other hand, the last panel of Diana is perfect. I mean, holy shit--her eyes are closed and none of her identifying livery is on-panel but you can tell who it is just by looking at it. Gorgeous.
