The Siege Trailer
The trailer shown by Marvel at the Diamond Retailer Summit, watch quickly cause they may take it down:

There's also two more interviews with Bendis here at IGN and CBR and a bigger version of the Siege promo under the cut for legality.

I hope they don't just sweep everything that happened between these guys under the rug. I know Tony has paid for his crimes but Steve has been dead through out that and Thor has had bigger things on his plate and I doubt they'll just accept his word.

Tony willingly fried his own brain to protect important secrets from Norman Osborn. That was noble, but it wasn't repentance or him admitting he was wrong. Of course, he hasn't incinerated his brain to protect those secrets, which implies he has a plan that will get him his intelligence back.

So, what, it's a case of 'Oh hey, you guys weren't around when I made up for this bad shit I did, so now I'll throw myself off a cliff despite Pepper and whoever else knowing I've already done a good deed'?

Screw that. And if Marvel do play it like that, a scene with Tony being all 'OHAIUGUYZ, MSORREEFORTHEWARANDTHECLONE' and Steve and Thor just accept it, then they're bigger idiots than I think they are.

Tony's made up for it more than enough.

I'm not saying he needs to do anything more just that there should still be some lingering trust issues.

You know what I want?

I want Bendis to write a scene that goes like this:

Tony: Damn, Steve, it's good to see you. I screwed up, man. You know I didn't want that play out like that, right?

Cap: I know you were trying to do the right thing, old friend. And from what I've heard of this Osborn nonsense, I can see what you were worried about happening.

Tony: Yeah, that was kind of my nightmare scenario.

Thor: Indeed. Perhaps I was rash to reject your advances before, Stark. I was newly returned, without my people and full of rage.

Tony: That's OK, man. I was kind of being a dick about the whole Asgard thing, you know? But you understand how a city full of gods hovering over Oklahoma can make people nervous, don't you?

Thor: Perhaps. The people therein were well-compensated. Your laws, such as we chose to submit to them, were followed. And speaking as a god, Stark, I hope you understand now never to try and play one again. You and Richards are clever, but sometimes you are not WISE.

Tony: No, I know better, now. Things just got out of hand. I just...I just wanted to keep people safe. You understand that, right? Both of you?

Cap: Tony, I've never doubted it. Not once. But you have a bad habit of getting righteous and charging off. Remember...

Tony: ..the 'Armor Wars' thing?

Cap: I was thinking about the Kree problem, actually. But the same thing. We talked about that one, remember?

Tony: Fair enough. But, you know, that whole kicking everyone's ass on the heli-carrier thing wasn't cool, right? I mean, maybe under Fury's watch.

Cap: You're not the only who makes mistakes when his dander's up. And the Punisher. God, what was I thinking?

Thor: Mayhaps, but Stark thinking he could shape man's will...

Cap: Now hold on, Thor. Didn't YOU try and change the world when you took the throne of Asgard? Didn't YOU do the exact same thing? You fought the Avengers, remember?

Thor: You shame with my own actions, Steve Rogers. And yet....you are right. I would chastise Tony Stark, yet I am no wiser. Indeed, my hubris was no less, when the time came, though my motives no less pure.

Tony: All right, all right. Enough. Can we all agree we made some mistakes and that we're bigger men? That we shouldn't be fighting each other?

Thor: Aye.

Cap: Damn right.

Thor: Let villains fear. Let tyrants like Doom, monsters like Ultron, madmen like the Red Skull TREMBLE. For we come for them.

[cue Avengers Assemble sequence]

In my mind, George Perez draws this. =)

Then...wouldn't Tony have to acknowledge that Maria Hill did that to Cap and was wrong to hold him at gunpoint when the SHRA hadn't even passed yet?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Re: Um...
[info]wizardru
2009-10-14 05:47 pm UTC (link)
Possibly. Tony really didn't have a hand in that, any more than he can be held responsible for Hill invading Spidey's mind over 'House of M'.

Cap could have gotten out of that situation without a fight, if Bendis wasn't writing him so awkwardly. And while Cap was held at gunpoint, those guns were TRANQ guns. He certainly didn't have to tear the helicarrier apart and nearly kill a pilot to make his point. He could have just conscientiously objected...but we couldn't have an action scene if Cap just let himself be locked in a cell for refusing to cooperate.

The 1963-2010 bit makes it seem like they might cancel the regular Marvel universe (unlikely I know)

Any day now, it'll be announced.

"Siege" is to the Marvel U what "Ultimatum" was to Ultimate Universe! No more X-Men, and Spider-Man is boffing Gwen Stacy again.

(Actually, if some of the rumors/theories are to believed, it's entirely possible they would do that)

Nah, it's purely referring to the Avengers since 1963 was when the first issue of Avengers was released.

Hmmm maybe this means the end for the Avenger and all Avenger titles will be canceled (or renamed) next year.

of course if this does happen they will of course be relaunched in time for the Avengers movie

I think it's a little weird that the "Good Guy" cover has the three core Avengers, and the "Bad Guy" cover has Norman twice.

Comic "Trailers" have got to be one of the most bullshitty marketing gimmicks ever. You've got to hand it to Marvel though, they've stuck with their post-CW setup for a pretty long time before pressing the inevitable reset button.

I like some of the European trailers (like this one), but this Marvel trailer tells you exactly nothing except the title. It's just a collection of covers, and some of them aren't even all that good.

Okay, Steve kind of has a double chin, and he's casting a really awkward sideways glance at Iron Man. He looks like he's thinking "Is he going to repulsor me? I thought we were cool now. I wonder if his brain's really working right?"

Also, Thor's face concerns me. He looks like a catgirl.

And looking at Steve there, I'm not feeling much dramatic tension for Who Will Wield The Shield.

That interview with Bendis at IGN is kind of annoying.

PARAPHRASED:

IGN: So, it's four issues?

Bendis: Yes! With a prologue.

IGN: So, FIVE issues?

Bendis: Yes! And a one-shot to explain the prologue.

IGN: So, Six issues?

Bendis: Yes! $3.99 comics bring the boys to the yard!

I know folks seem to think they're hitting a reset button here, but I'm fairly sure they're not. They're just hitting the editorial reset button like they have every twelve months for the last 10 years or so.

DING! The Avengers are gone.
DING! The heroes are fighting.
DING! Iron Man is The Man.
DING! Everyone's a Skrull.
DING! The Green Goblin is The Man.
DING! Everyone is suddenly afraid of Asgard.
DING! The Avengers are back together again.

...and so on. Now, I'll grant you that Marvel has had some serious stones for managing to stick to their guns about actually changing their universe with a lot of these changes for Realz...but really, those only last as long as anyone wants them to last. Two years from now, the X-men will become the Avengers...or something.

The 'seismic shift' in the Avengers titles? Must we engage in such pointless hype? There are, what, five Avengers titles on the racks, now? I can't even follow them, anymore. (And don't.)

Speak for yourself on House of M. The world-building was interesting, I'll give it that, but the prologue and especially the ending were stupid as hell, particularly when taking into account the entire reason the damn thing was made (240 million worldwide out of 6 billion is still a minority, Quesada).

I'll give House of M credit for basically showing what a tool Magneto was for fucking up his own children with his twisted thinking. In of itself it's a decent story. But it still sucks for continuing the Scarlet Witch Character Horribleness from Avengers Disassembled and for the effect it had on the MU mutants.

Everything after that...just crap IMHO.
