Same here. I don't mind the occasional interesting artifact or mysterious goings-on. I don't like her magic because it's just too easy. Too deus ex machina. Need her to magic up something? Done. Need her to not be able to? Then there's a sudden reason (like in this story) where she can't.
Why doesn't she just use it all the time? Why don't more problems get fixed with her skills? There don't seem to be any rules attached (I say seems because I haven't read much with her in it. The whole concept is just not interesting to me storywise.) until suddenly a rule just occurs. In this story, it's: you can't go in Dinosaur Island's magic volcano because you have 'god-like powers'. Just feels too contrived to me as a story device and I have to suspend my disbelief too often.
I guess, too, I want characters in bat-stories to usually use their own skills to solve a problem, not have a sudden magic fixer-upper pop up.
