Bendis Reveals More Siege Details
Marvel's architect reveals artist and length of 2010 event.
by Richard George

October 7, 2009 - Dark Reign might not be over, but we're starting to get an idea where Marvel Comics is headed in 2010. Last month's solicit information for December 2009 revealed that an event called "Siege" was coming. Last night on G4, writer Brian Bendis revealed some significant details about the storyline.

Siege seems to kick off in a similar fashion to Dark Reign, with a one-shot special, called Siege: The Cabal, arriving at the tail end of this year. But what about the event proper? Bendis confirmed that a core four issue mini-series will be the spine of the Avengers franchise event. Bendis will be writing the title with Olivier Coipel on art.

The longtime Avengers writer was fairly cryptic on details save for one piece of information - the Avengers are reforming. "[Siege] is not only the end of this Dark Reign storyline we've been telling with Norman Osborn running the world, but it's a seismic shift in the Avengers books," Bendis told G4 reporter Blair Butler. "It's just as big as when we did [Avengers: Disassembled] and New Avengers. It's a very big shift. It's basically what would happen in the Marvel Universe that would unite characters that have literally not been on the same team or same side for, believe it or not, almost over ten years. Thor, Iron Man and Cap have not been in the same room doing the same thing since way before I was on the book.

From IGN.

I'm really hoping Bendis won't just sweep Tony's crimes under the rug but I have my doubts. And Bendis provides more evidence that he doesn't pay attention to anything other then his own work since the Big Three were last together during a tie-in to Disassembled whihc was only five years ago when he was writing the event. For legality here are three pages from that last meeting.

And then Thor went to sleep for a few years, Tony cloned him and Cap was shot before he woke up.

If possible, could you please edit those images to be one on top of the other? Those are stretching my screen quite nastily.

Which one of Cap, Iron Man, or Thor fought on the side of the Skrulls in Secret Invasion?

(I realize he means Steve Rogers when he says Cap, but whatever.)

He's generalizing, but they really haven't been on the same team consistently since midway through Dan Jurgens' run on Thor.

I'll be interested to see how this syncs up with their books; Reborn will be over by January, but the next Iron Man arc seems like it will be around Tony in some sort of coma-type state, and it won't be over until mid-year.

Wow, Tony in a coma. How original.

Hmmm, how come he hasn't gotten the same treatment as Spidey, namely having 20 odd years of continuity erased by magic? Unlike a large hunk of Spider Man fans most readers would be happy to see such junk as evil Kang controlled Tony, teen Tony, and cryptofacist supporter of dubious laws Tony washed away.

Wasn't the Tony controlled by Kang storyline alreayd washed away in Avengers Forever?

Yes and no. He was still being mind controlled, but it was by Kang's future/no longer future self, Immortus, who'd been fucking with the Avengers for decades in order to keep the Timekeepers from wiping out what they saw as the threat of humanity. Everyone just thought it was Kang because he was using what had been done to Tony to his advantage.

My god. Has it been that long?

This whole issue of Thor was classic Marvel Avengers Trinity, through and through.
When I wholeheartedly believed in all three, Stark, Rogers and Odinson.

Oh, friggidy. Another crisis crossover with Bendis as the central writer? At least it means I'll only need to read about half the issues, since the rest will be decompression sitting around and talking.

To be fair, this one sounds like it'll be more of an active event than DR. DR is very passive in that it's just a general landscape and not one major big battle. Siege may just be Norman finally losing his shit and just saying "Fuck it, let's go crazy" and getting his ass kicked by EVERYONE.

It was good news until the part where Bendis is writing it.

10 years real time! not in the Marvel universe....it's about 2 years.
Damn time fly.

and to of them have been dead almost half of it.
I do hope Tony's crimes wont be forgoten.

Apologies, but.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE, MARVEL, HAVE YOU NOT HEARD OF EVENT FATIGUE?!

I mean, they've had four or five "world-shifting" events going on concurrently for how many years now?

Though, someone's killed Odin. Run people.

Event-fatigue, much-talked-about but ultimately not born out by sales data? (which has shown that these sorts of active events are the primary way of getting people reading and sales fall whenever they aren't running them)

Anyway, it's four issues, and this sort of mini is really the best means of ending something that's affected the entire universe.

Plus it'll probably mean seeing Norman get kicked in the dick by the Marvel Universe so, whatevs.

Plus New Avengers shake up? Hopeing for some SpiderMan-SpiderWoman loving and maybe Brother Voodoo getting on the team hell yeah

I would think event fatigue would show up in the interim figures; like, people would buy events, but drop out in between. I have no idea if that's actually happening.

Well, I'm a bit tired of all the event books, but then I read:

"...with Olivier Coipel on art."

Pretty art makes me happy.

If we must keep having events can we at least give some one other than Bendis a shot? Remember when in kindergarden when they taught you to share Marvel? Well make Bendis share the status quo (not will Millar or Leob though).

I mean, Bendis is an okay guy, but after Disassembled and SI he can't do 'special events' because well... he has no idea of pacing. Gahhh.

I'd like them to give the Agents of Atlas guy (Parker, is that his name) a shot.

I liked Secret Invaison despite it's many flaws it's just Bendis has been so overexpossed that it'd be nice to see someone else do some of the big things for a while.

Tony Stark is saddled with a bad artist, and a writer who doesn't get him. In addition, his name is mud in the Marvel U, he has no power, is alienated from his friends, has seen the SHRA turned into ashes in his mouth... and has set himself to go full retard. By the time they catch up with him, he'll be a drooling, incontinent mess. What will they do with a guy like that, then?

He has been punished, and pushed to the margins, all that he worked for has turned to dust.

Motto.

I mean for Fuck's Sake, Tony's paid his dues. Although honestly, most of Tony's problem was poor editorial control with different writers portraying him differently. It matters less with Osborn (especially since he's being portrayed as a dick intentionally, just with varying levels of competence). Tony swung between brutish thug to conflicted humanitarian in the space of the same month, depending on what title he was on.

I don't think anyone is still mad at Tony over CIVIL WAR.

The hero with the most reason would have been Spider-Man, and since he doesn't (seem to) remember revealing his ID or May getting shot, no harm, no foul.

*sigh*

Well... given Bendis likes characters sitting around talking, at least we might get Steve and Tony and Thor actually talking and stuff?

Also, super d'aww at Tony wanting to comfort Thor, and Steve stopping him from interrupting, and Steve holding the little kid. That's such a nice panel. I miss them like this. Is this Thor Disassembled? I want to get this.
