Well, I suppose we should at least be thankful that they're referencing the whole legacy aspect and African origins at all. He's still supposed to be the latest in a long line of Kit Walkers, and all that, so the whole reputation of the Ghost That Walks thing would seem to be also implied.
Although why on Earth a living Phantom (because the Ghost That Walks doesn't work unless you replace each Phantom with his successor rather quickly) would leave his son to be raised by foster parents into adulthood, rather than commencing his training... well, maybe they've got a good explanation.
Hey, did any of the Phantoms ever have more than one male child, or more than one child, period? Wonder what they call the other kids in that event... and how many times there was more than one Mrs. Phantom (serially, not in parallel) because of difficulty in conceiving.
