Motto. You don't get to kill Darkseid if you can't plausibly claim to be his son, and you don't beat Darkseid, once and for all, if your name isn't Scott Free. And yet even the people who didn't like it only ever wanted to talk about whether or not Batman would have shot Darkseid.
Final Crisis should have been "Darksied stomps all over the DCU and it totally looks like he's got it in the bag but Oh Wait! Orion is back (how did that happen?) and they fight and Orion's winning and then Darkseid is all like, 'prophecy muthafucka, you gonna be just like me!' and then Orion is all like 'Orly?' and he pulls off his rubber mask and it's MR. FUCKING MIRACLE and Darkseid just drops dead of Suprise, his face petrified in an eternal D-=, Kirby-style." Not "Darksied mind controls a single planet, kills a bunch of obscure yet awesome characters like in every other goddamn crisis, Silver Age Flash is back, oh and experimental non-aristotelian narrative, because nothing says "The god of tyranny is winning" like the collapse of narrative order. Haha but really it's because this isn't even Darkseid's goddamn show, it's all about a vampire monitor who gets introduced in a Superman one-shot-tie in, because it just isn't a crisis if it isn't fundamentally about that goofy-ass monitor/anti-monitor idea from the very first crisis."
