Too bad none of these interesting theories came across in the actual printed pages themselves. Given their track record so far, not only do I have no reason to given them the benefit of the doubt, but I feel pretty much morally obligated to assume the absolute worst of them, since 90 percent of the time, they somehow manage to sink below my worst expectations of them.
As for the whole face thing, NEITHER ONE OF THEM WANTED FOR HER TO LOOK AT HIS FACE (at least, that's my interpretation). He didn't want her to see it. She didn't WANT to see it. What's the problem?
I've had some pretty shallow, surface-level romantic relationships, I'll admit, but especially given the fact that they BOTH know that they had a DEEPER relationship AFTER she saw his face, it NECESSARILY means that both of them value the other's genitals more than they value the PEOPLE who are attached to them, to a degree that even my callous asshole college self couldn't even CONCEIVE of, and it's all capped off with Peter saying that he feels NO guilt over it. FUCK that. Peter should not be an even WORSE person than I was when I was YOUNGER than him.
As you yourself said, that's an inexcusably shitty bit of character assassination to do to both characters.
