I hate to say this because it shows me as being waaaaay too invested in make believe characters, but each new issue of Spider-Man is seriously depressing me so much that I actually CRIED when I saw these pages. I really think at this point that the writers are enjoying giving constant slaps to the face of anyone who ever enjoyed Mary Jane and Peter being married or even TOGETHER. So far we've had stories where both are so out of character it's ridiculous, with MJ getting in a relationship with a complete douchebag who I honestly can't see her ever being interested in, and then Peter is having possible drunken one-nighters with his roommate and now sleeping with Felicia after her being back in his life for two seconds.
OMD established that MJ and Peter had an insanely powerful and pure love for each other and that even though they wouldn't remember the whole deal with the devil thing, their souls would and would be in agony over it. I'm really not seeing any of that in these stories. All I'm seeing is the writers constantly going, "MJ and Peter aren't together anymore! They're both sleeping around with lots of people because they are no longer together! They are never ever going to get back together because that would be too boring!" And even though pretty much everyone knows that Peter and Mary Jane will get back together eventually, it just makes me too sad to see all the crap they are doing to two of my favorite characters in the meantime.
I tried to give BND and all the Nu Spidey stuff a chance and kept buying it, and I actually have liked a few of the storylines and new characters, but it's just getting too depressing for me now. I'll just stick with Bendis' Spider-Man over in New Avengers. At least over there he still seems like a hero.
