There is a cosmic threat that is threatening to destroy our Universe. Darkseid and Highfather agree to a truce to fight this cosmic force. They gather together heroes from different reaches to help them. This was a great 4 issue series. It was 1988, post crisis and post Superman reboot. But really this Superman seemed more like pre Crisis Superman. The segment with John Stewart and Martian Manhunter was my favorite part. Before this my exposure to either character was limited. The interactions between the two characters is great. CO made me like John and J'onn. I followed both characters in other comics because of CO. One thing that I thought was out of character is MM's amazement at what a GL ring can do. But then I made myself smile when I realized the majority of MM's exposure to the power of a GL ring was from Hal Jordan. He must have been shocked the first time the ring created something other than a giant boxing glove. (-; Because of CO John Stewart became my favorite GL. This showed him as a human with mortal flaws wielding the most powerful weapon in the universe. 10 pages of 200 TPB.
The Anti-Life Entity has taken control of one of the planets it needs to destroy. It is throwing everything it can at the heroes to stop them from stopping It. The Anti Life Entity can take any form so it is difficult to find. They travel in a shielded cube but its not enough when the Anti Life Entity uses the planets molten core as a weapon.
Many pages of the planet exploding follow. Martian Manhunter survives only because GL's ring still protecting him.
John Stewart goes through some horrible guilt and later seriously contemplates suicide. I might post those pages later. They contain some great character interaction between him and J'onn J'onzz .
