Re: Not Batman, but since we're talking superheroes and class I don't think he was intended to be some ordinary joe, he was always intelligent, moral, and early on... a bit of a misanthropist prick (fortunately this was phased out).
I don't know how true this is, but some think Ditko wanted to show Peter Parker gradually become a Randian hero like John Galt or Howard Roark. Re-reading some of the Ditko era, he was more like Gregory House. Peter was mean and snotty to almost everyone except Aunt May.
