Oh, duh! Forgot to mention.
This story's also a crossover between Allred's Madman franchise and his Red Rocket 7, which was essentially a love letter to the history of rock and roll as experienced by an alien dude. The red-haired guy on the last page is the titular Red Rocket 7, chilling with his son Red. The two guys from The Gear are their bandmates.
