Of all the things that had gone disastrously wrong in New Waverly, the one thing everyone might expect to be foiled - the annual Supers Pride Parade - tended to get away unscathed. Some credit the services of hero teams, vigilantes, and the NWPD. Others reason it's because it's an event aired on national television and perhaps that dissuades hate groups from making too many enemies. Or perhaps attempts have been made in the past, but when there are hundreds of supers and follows gathered in one area, one or some are bound to have powers that would assist in recognizing and disarming threats. Either way, this year by all appearances seemed to be as secure as previous years. And given activity the past few months, that was a treat. Sure there were people standing on the sidelines with giant UHF posters and faces of S&S members with red marks over them. But if it just so happened that a very particular wind from an unknown source targeted and swept those posters out of these peoples' hands, well that was just their luck wasn't it. Despite the rifts between hero factions and the wide variety of opinions overall, the Parade was a unifying achievement with a basic statement: we are proud of who we are. On a warm spring day, the trees just beginning to bud, the sun was out and bright. Thousands took Main Street, marching with bright banners, holding hands, and generally just having a very good day. There were some performers, musicians, and dancers. Several folks dressed ridiculously or proudly walked around with their physical abnormalities on display. Superhumans from miles around flooded to the city for the parade and it seemed that this was their biggest turnout yet. |
